Privacy policy

Hi! Because I live in the EU (and perhaps you’re in the EU too! It’s nice here!), I’m obliged to tell you about the privacy policies of my website. If you’d like to know more, please read on.

I take your privacy seriously, so here are some details on how your information will be used.

Who is collecting the data?

This site is hosted by Squarespace and subject to the data collection policies of Squarespace. You can see their privacy policies here. Squarespace uses “cookies” in order to save your preferences, as you’ll have gathered from the notice that should appear when you load this website. Their cookie policy is here.

If you contact me personally through email, then your email goes directly to me. If you contact my agent or publishers, your email goes to them.

If you visit Twitter or Instagram via the links on this site, then their relevant privacy policies are here and here.

What data is being collected?

Squarespace collects location information and IP addresses, as spelled out in their policy. If you contact me via email, then I’ll have your email address and, if you’ve included it, your name. This information will be stored via Gmail, whose policies you can find here. If you email me, your information will not be shared beyond our correspondence, ever. I won’t send you unsolicited emails.

What is the legal basis for processing the data?

Squarespace collects data from website visitors in order to develop and improve their services, and to provide users like myself with a better understanding of how users browse their website. If you are unsure, have a look at the Squarespace policies above.

If you’ve emailed me, I’ll have your email address. I don’t actively save your details to a database, but it is saved automatically by Gmail. If you’d like me to delete your email address and correspondence from my contacts or email history, I will do so on request.

Will the data be shared with any third parties?

Data shared with me personally via email will not be shared with third parties, ever.

How will the information be used?

I’ll use your email address to respond to your enquiry! After that, you won’t hear from me.

How long will the data be stored for?

I endeavour to routinely clear out my inbox every three months, so your email will be deleted within that time.

What rights does the data subject have?

You’re welcome to request that I delete your email address from my contacts. For details on the data collected by Squarespace, Twitter, or Instagram, please see their policies linked above.

How can the data subject raise a complaint?

It seems counter-intuitive but… you can get in touch with me—the self-appointed Data Protection Officer of my blog— via email here.

Thanks for visiting!
